Do girls use texting to get investment from you before meeting?

If effort causes us to not want to let something go, then girls probably know this. If so, then they'd want us to put in as much effort into them as we can before they actually meet up with us and it makes sense that texts is a good way to do that. Especially if her pics are all over the place, constantly reminding you of how awesome she is and how worth it it all is.

Thus, meaning that she won't waste her time on somebody who doesn't care about her when she eventually does wish to meet up.

Or am I just overthinking things?

Hey Ash, I think you're over thinking it and remember; law of least effort. Some girls need more investment before hand, others don't. It can come down to how you met them and how long you were able to spend with them. They're more likely to be skeptical after meeting you for 30 seconds as opposed to 30 minutes; that said if you got their number in 30 seconds well played! A couple month back I met a girl, got her number, arranged a date within 3 messages but alas she cancelled on the date. A while later we bumped into each other again and she approached me with a lame excuse, but fake good behavior is still good behavior that furthers the interaction. She text me again that night, but to not repeat mistakes I text her more to build up rapport. This time she didn't cancel and we've been on a few dates since.

Clearly care about the girl(s) you're interested in, but don't put them on a pedestal because there's plenty more fish in the sea, and I guarantee she's not all that and a bag of chips! Don't be an orbiter obsessed with her posts on social media. If she's dating you you've made the right choice!
