I think planning approaches out like that, over days, never seems like a good idea.
However, I think maybe it was a bit extra for her to confront you with a guy.
I mean sure, she's within her right to assume the worst, but you're also within your right to not give a fuck if you did not have ill intent (but still learn from the experience).
I would've just looked at them like they were crazy/weird for talking to me and then completely ignored them. Though, I don't think I've ever been confronted by a guy or girl like that.
I think it also depends on whether you regularly run into her or specifically started seeking her out after you first saw her. If it's the latter... sorry bud but her reaction makes sense, for reasons others stated (I still would've looked at her like she's a nutso if she confronted me tho
