How do you all spend your evenings productively after work?

Reading? Exercise? Socializing with friends?

I'm tryna figure out the best way to be 'productive' in the evenings. This is coming off of Uni, where they were spent studying or with proximal friends.

Obviously this is personal question that relates to ones own goals. Curious how you all are doing it.

Mine are related to my goals but here is a short list:

  • Reading (30 min to 1 hour) - Helps broaden my horizons with different perspectives and data. Gives me more knowledge to put to work.
  • Meditation (1 hour) - Like taking a conscious nap. I let my mind work through thoughts, feelings, visuals, etc. In other words, just watching the sitcom of my mind. I find it helps with being present, working issues out, and resting while conscious.
  • Lifting (40 min 3x a week) - I lift for strength and muscle mass. The increased strength and muscle do wonders for confidence and self-esteem. I do this to give myself the feeling of physical power.
  • Side Job (time varies) - I do this as a hedge for my current job. Trying to generate income in a way that I am location-independent and work for myself.
  • TRE - I swear this is a magic bullet for general anxiety. It helped me when everything else failed. I am more relaxed, composed, and cool these days. Not as twitchy or tense. For reference, I would jump in my seat with sudden noises or people coming into my cubicle. • Shows/Movies - Good way to relax after work and stay up to date on pop culture. It helps with staying relevant with the latest in conversations. Watching Cobra Kai now. Awesome show.
I started small and built up in duration for most of the above activities. Trying to go 100% from the beginning is always a non-starter for me. Ex. Reading 30 minutes a day. I built up to an 1 hour after a while. Same with meditation.

  • Exercise + Diet - https://www.skilledseducer.com/threads/gym-advice-for-skinny-lean-guys.23478/#post-122743 (exercise is 2 days on. 1 day off. and out of all the meals in that recipe book, I only cook 4 meals, and 2 snacks every week (keep it simple). Cook/go out grocery shopping twice a week (Sunday+Thursday). I like having my meals ready to eat, after i come back from the gym/showered).
  • Books - https://hn.algolia.com/ hit "book changed" in the search results, then go through them threads (ex: "what books changed the way you think about almost everything") and select whichever one seems interesting. Download via https://b-ok.cc/ or http://libgen.rs/ (I understand these links are banned in some areas around the world. if you happen to be one of those people...welp)
  • Movies - https://tastedive.com/ - enter all the movies that you love (I personally recommend entering the films that not too many people know about. cause it'll yield better recommended search results). then scroll down to "people recommended for you" and take a look at the films people who share your obscure movie taste, also like (site is also good for finding a new tv show/music band) again select whichever one seems interesting. Watch via 123movies or putlocker (i understand these links are ba...)
  • sports - http://crackstreams.com/ (i understa..)

If I work out in the evening I try to combine with a good audio book...

I also take gymnastics or martial arts, capoeira.

Also side businesses or hustles

During the workweek:
Exercise - Right after work ASAP 3-4-5 days a week. 40 minutes to an hour. If an activity comes up during that time, then I'll exercise that morning before.

Socializing: 2 nights a week after exercise.

Meal prep. Post exercise. Try to make next days lunch with leftovers, and plan future meals getting ingredients out to thaw.

Projects: shop for supplies for weekend projects or pack for weekend trips.

Reading: before bed.

Tossing and turning in bed trying to fall asleep is about as unproductive as it gets. If you've wasted too much time doing that like me then I have some recommendations.

Go grab some blue light blocking glasses from Amazon and pop them on in the evening. I've always had trouble falling asleep, and being in front of the screen later in the evening (phone, computer, TV) definitely makes it tougher to fall asleep. The blue light from electronic screens surpasses melatonin production which messes up your body's clock and makes it tougher to pass out.

I pop my glasses on about 3 hours before I go to bed and it really helps me crash. They'll make you look fuckin goofy but it's part of the game. I also take Magnesium Threonate 2 hours before bed, a special kind of magnesium that is supposed to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, that has helped me sleep deeper.
