Forgot to update the earlier conversation, but after speaking with my friend who’s mutual friends with BradP, here’s what he had to say:
Basically, Brad got into the addict treatment business to really try to make a difference (which gels with what I know about him; he’s a dude who really cares about helping people). He scaled it up to the point where he was operating on fairly low margins, but just trying to help as many people as he could.
According to our mutual friend, any time Brad caught wind of any of the referral sources he was using for clients doing anything unscrupulous (he said it is like any business, you work with a LOT of affiliates, and they are supposed to sign off and agree they are not doing anything shady, but some of them break the rules), he completely cut them off and quit doing business with them.
At the time they rolled out this new law that they strung him up on, the law was untested and no one really knew exactly what they’d use it for and how/when/if they would enforce it at all. There was zero actual guidance on it.
What apparently happened was the FBI got involved and whoever was working the case was looking for a ‘career case’, so looked for the biggest fish he could find. Brad’s business was scaled up and doing millions (albeit with not very high margins), so he became a target.
According to our mutual friend, the case has completely crushed Brad. He was doing something to help people that everyone else abandoned, and got pilloried for it. Our friend has been talking to him in prison and trying to support him but he says it’s tough. Access to someone in federal prison is extremely limited.
The one ray of positive light is Brad’s fiancée: beautiful girl, ex-model, has stayed by his side throughout. Our mutual friend said the level of support & loyalty she’s shown Brad while Brad’s locked up has him viewing her in a tremendous light.
That’s the update.
Compare what happened to the Sacklers (creating addicts; no criminal charges) vs. Brad (treating addicts; locked up in federal prison)… the legal landscape in the U.S. is completely upside down right now.
Bureaucrats going for ‘career cases’ instead of aiming for the public good.
Pretty terrible..
