Cities like Toronto and San Francisco are thrown around a lot and I agree, they do suck a shit-ton, but is it mainly down to the gender ratios?
What makes some cities suck so bad for single men?

Oh pry dude! A live in a terrible place for single men. If the other shit holes are anything like mine it's down to the gender ratio, working balance an the general environment being anything but productive.
A friend's girlfriend was visiting town from the states an she couldn't believe the nightlife. It's average is 20 - 30 girls to 100 guys.
The area is a ghost town.
A remember reading ya online dating guide before where ya suggest to set ya distance to a mile for a quick match. A still haven't done online dating but one of my mates has the distance set to 30 miles. His matches are typically about 15 mile away, the closest being about 5 mile.

I find it hard to believe anywhere in the westernized world could be that bad. I imagine even in San Fran and Toronto there are still plenty of attractive available women. Those are huge cities. Small towns would be an exception. Also once you leave the west in places like the Middle East and Indian I’m sure it’s incredibly difficult. Lucky to not be in those places.

Naturalmikey dude! I live in a little area outside of a small town in the UK so it is in the westernised world. The small town itself isn’t too bad especially when the students are around but due to work/life balance a can only really go there when am of work. Because of this a mostly do night game. The odds are as steep as I noted earlier. All the clubs are heavily populated with guys.
I remember being out in about Feb in a small club an there were only 5 girls a deemed ‘attractive’, 3 were off limits (clearly out with boyfriends, or same social circle as my ex. If you’ve read some of my posts you might know she’s made false domestic abuse accusations about me an derailed me a few times already so a knew the odds would be against me). After striking out with the two available girls I wondered if a was being too picky an looked around. There were 15 girls to 90 guys, 1/3 being ‘attractive’ (6+) was a good ratio. I couldn’t drop my standards any lower, the rest were really fat which is why I deemed them unattractive in the first place.
So the small town an the little area are both exceptions but that's the environment a live in.
In an 8 square mile area around where a live there are roughly 1200 girls and 1200 men aged 18 to 33. If you remove anyone with a recorded BMI of above 25 (deemed as fat) you have 400 girls and 800 men left. (BMI is outdated an inaccurate, am considered overweight on BMI yet a have 9% body fat but it works for rough figures). These figures don’t even account for attractiveness and availability (assuming the girls are loyal...) but ya can see already there isn’t a lot of choice in my immediate area. (This area doesn’t go into the town)
