Just saw this podcast on my IG feed. Seeing all the recent articles about nightlife dying down and the discussion in the forum, I thought this would be interesting for other people as well.

From my experience: I spend the majority of my time in Bali, which has transitioned from a surfer island to a party island over the last decades. But even here I can see that people are not happy with the nightlife, stopped drinking alcohol, and the prettiest girls don't even go to general clubs or bars anymore. They choose to go to either exclusive events or early morning cacao ceremonies. Very interesting shift in the dynamic.

I think it's really MEN that are the ones not turning up for clubs - as opposed to attractive women.

Some of the attractive women not going to clubs may sometimes be following the lead of men, but I think this is a lower number of women compared to the large amount of men not going to clubs.

I see more women in clubs than men though, for sure.

The reason I think men aren't going to clubs - men only ever went to nightclubs to meet women so they could (eventually) sleep with them and then (secondarily) for some fun. They're using the apps instead.

Additionally, alcohol is getting too expensive - so many guys can't afford to drink or just don't want to drink because drinking isn't appealing to them when they consider the high price.
Drinking is becoming a hobby for very wealthy people only, not young students or people that are in their 20's starting their careers.

TLDW?

Edit: Sorry but I don't have time to watch 50 minutes video right now (or later), any chance you could give a very brief resume what they say the reasons are?

I didn’t watch it but here is why:

increased social anxiety

lack of friends to go out with

less money available to spend on drinks, food, cover charges, uber, etc

Slightly increased focus on health compared to past generations

Don’t want to end up doing something stupid and end up as a video on social media

…. All stuff I hear when I talk to younger people.

Last time I went out I walked in and was immediately being filmed by two guys who were documenting the night for the DJ or something. It was pretty aggravating.

I signalled non verbally to cut it out and chatted a bit. He dapped me up and said "stay duckin these hoes". But yeah I thought a big draw of the night was the laissez faire environment, away from prying eyes or social masks.

Kind of sad, really. Maybe a club could do the locked phone bags like Jack White does at his concerts and see if people come to let loose.

Less people are going out in Australia and I do NOT see anyone EVER recording anyone doing anything at any time when in clubs anywhere in Australia.
I don't even see them taking photos - they usually have professional photographers around employed by the club.

So, if less people are going clubbing in America and Australia - and you never see anyone recording anything ever in clubs in Australia, then people in fear of being recorded is certainly not the issue, as some have said above.

I think the downturn of nightclubs and bars patronage is solely from dating apps (on the men's side mostly) because men (falsely) think they don't need to go to clubs to find women to sleep with, so they're just not going.
Most men have always hated clubs and only went to meet women. So they think they don't need to do that anymore.

Women have always liked clubs, it was a place for attention, competing with other women for validation and to meet men. Dating apps don't really replace clubs/bars for women like it does for men.

Secondarily, the higher cost of alcohol/high costs of living in general and people drinking less or simply buying less drinks.

Both of these reasons track to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and their decrease in patronage at clubs and bars - and I think it's mostly coming from men.

I am definitely not representative of the population... When I see guys on bikes with helmet go pros I want to push them off... Always duck being in photo backgrounds, etc. Multiple girls beg me for a pic together, I say no...

And yet it will not stop me going out!

So yeah apps and alcohol I guess...

Fight Club 2: Tyler Durden's Project Mayhem takes down Tinder servers and spikes the nation's matcha supply... Social anxiety begone.

Society would be a much different place today if we only had rational fears, lol!

the thing with most people is they see others like them being humiliated on social media, including all the comments clowning on them and it re-enforces the idea to avoid being that person at all costs. It becomes part of their identity that they are not that goofball who gets humiliated by women. This then prevents them letting go and having fun in clubs. This is why so many young guys walk on egg shells around women now.
