Hey guys,
I’ve recently started cold approaching and while I’ve had the usual mix of rejections and warm responses, this one left me confused.
I approached a beautiful woman in professional attire near the subway with a direct compliment. We exchanged names, and she told me she works in consulting. I shared what I do too — everything was flowing well.
Then out of nowhere, she asked, “Why are you asking me these questions?”
I got a bit flustered and flipped it back, asking if it was her first time talking to someone outside her social circle. She said no, just didn’t expect it. I acknowledged that and tried to move the conversation towards a different tangent by asking her how she spent her weekends.
She cut back with: “What are you doing?”
I clarified if she meant why I approached her — she said yes. I told her she seemed charming so I came over. She said, “Okay… but I’m not interested.” I said no worries and walked off.
What confused me was that her tone was warm and sweet , and she was smiling throughout the interaction with a slight blush when I told her she seemed charming which she replied with a - but I am not interested.
I don't know if her smiling was because she found the situation bizare, liked the attention or was just being polite.
So I’m wondering:
Was this a test? Was she flirting? Should I have handled the “why are you talking to me” differently — maybe stood my ground or steered the convo elsewhere?
