So reading the article about barriers to entry, the following part has stuck with me for quite some time.
I want to improve my writing, so I thought that publishing a simple and anonymous blog mostly about pickup (and specifically about venues in my city or tactics) would be a good place to start for that. This would be supplemented with writing lay reports and contributing to the discussions here. Also, I'm studying Computer Science and I want to get better at building Android apps as a skill set. I do realize that both of these things are quite low barrier to entry (even though it takes a lot of skill to create well-written and functioning apps).
I'm not planning on making money off of the blog, assuming that the article is mainly focusing on the financial reward. But I'd still like to build my skill set and just 'create shit' to put it bluntly. I'm already doing daygame and putting in the effort for that. Now that my foolish enthusiasm has calmed down, I'm not sure what the best course of action is, to be honest. Whether putting time and effort in blogging and app development is a good investment, especially regarding the above quote. Rather than seeking out and learning other things that can improve my writing and other skills that I can make use of in my field of CS.
Can anyone chime in on this a bit more?
Chase said:(I’m guilty of it, too; I started meeting girls in nightclubs that was easiest for me, and I started business by blogging because that seemed easiest. If I had to go back and do both over, I’d tell myself to start in very different places and just suck it up until I was winning – do day game instead of night game starting out, and focus on Internet marketing and forget about blogging starting out. If you still want to do those things later, do them then... but you probably won’t want to once you’ve aced a higher upside angle!)
So – before you get too excited about something (anything!), check out the barriers to entry first. If everybody’s doing it, you can expect to get SOME success... PROBABLY... but not a whole heck of a lot (and perhaps nothing, if it’s SUPER low barrier to entry, like catcalling or Facebook commenting or building apps for smart phones or blogging – ones where so many people are doing them that the results are just horribly diluted and watered down... like sharing a $10 million winning lottery ticket with 70 million other people).
