This might sound counter-intuitive, but the amount of acne I had when I was younger seemed to lessen to a great degree once I stopped washing my face with soap (although I still wash between the crevices of my nose and behind my ears since those areas tend to smell when they build up dirt/sweat).

If you're adventurous enough, you can try to stop washing your face with soap for ~2 weeks and see if you get better results.

EDIT: If you want the reasoning behind this method, it's that the oils on your face are actually what help PREVENT your skin from getting acne/blackheads, so when you wash your face with soap, you're actually removing all of those oils that help protect your pores. The downside is that your skin will appear more oily, but I personally prefer oily skin over acne-infested skin.

I personally made a better habit of washing my face. In my teens I had to go to the dermatologist and get prescription cream, and steroid like pills as well. Now in my 20s I don't worry too much about acne. It can still happen. I made it through with minimal scarring.

I keep a bottle of Clearasil face wash in my bathroom and a bottle at work as well. I make a habit of washing my face when I go to the bathroom.

Also lay out in the sun. The darker skin will show acne less and UV rays have been proven to kill acne bacteria, or so my dermatologist said. They actually had a thing called UV treatment where they would expose you to UV rays for a certain amount of time. Also the chlorine in pools seems to dry my face and clear it.

I have a VERY oily face. They had me on the strongest stuff possible and I never dried out.
