So I’m heading back from my internship, dressed sharp, as always (seriously, dressing up works like a cheat code for attracting women, and I’m still not sure why). I spot this girl at the bus stop and slide into her periphery, talking over my shoulder, proximity plus voice projection combo. Boom, attention grabbed.
I ask if she’s heading home or off to somewhere more exciting. She says she’s on her way to a cram school on my campus (I live in the dorms there). Turns out she’s prepping for the vestibular exam to get into Medical Physics, brainy type.
I give her a playful “Oh really?” like it’s the most surprising thing ever and say, “Cool, let’s chat on the bus.” I Introduce myself and go for a handclasp and she takes it. (Pro tip: most guys here in Brazil don’t even try to break the touch barrier, let alone with some GC-style finesse.)
Fast-forward: we’re on the bus, sitting together. I give her a light touch on the elbow, the arm while we talk about Iracema. It’s a romantic story, so I use that angle, pace her, and realize she’s only just started the book but digs the way I retell the love story like I lived it.
There’s a small leaf caught in her hair. I try the nonverbal signal first, doesn’t land, so I casually pluck it out. She’s still a bit guarded, so I tease her: “What would your boyfriend think of this?” She laughs and says it’s just a normal convo. (Translation: I’m probably just the warm-up act... for now.)
She pulls out her book and starts reading, but still glances at me now and then. I joke: “Am I bothering you?” She says it’s all good. So I let her read, tell her to focus, and promise to let her know when we’re close to campus.
Bus nears my stop. I say goodbye, grab her number, go in for a hug and say “Good luck.” She’s all smiles and bubbly. And yeah, I could tell she didn’t really want the interaction to end so soon.
