I've always admired figures throughout history and even modern day men who have a versatility in their lifestyle. These are the men who move through the world to the beat of their own drum. They live the way they want, pursue a variety of passions and are some of the most well-rounded people. They can mingle with just about anyone, hold conversation and make friends with people from all walks of life.

This is my never-ending aspiration. I've always been somewhat of a social chameleon, being able to mask certain parts of my personality around one crowd and amplifying other aspects to relate to another.

I think that is the key to being able to make friends and connect with women who may have a very different set of life experiences from you. Typically, I see my friends, family, acquaintances, coworkers dating women who come from a very familiar social sphere to them; my hipster friends date hipster women, my business-corporate friends date high-powered business women, my religious friends date other equally devout religious women... so on and so forth.

The more I stretch my interests and expand my scope of hobbies, passions and skills, the more I am able to meet different types of people and thus connect with them better because I have a larger range of interests and set of experiences.

For example, had I not decided to begin learning Spanish and travel to South America, I would never have learned to appreciate the beauty and character of Latin American women. If I had never rediscovered my Korean heritage and regained fluency in my native tongue, I would not have learned to appreciate the better qualities of Korean women. It's been in my growth and pursuit of language, certain skills and areas of study that I began to notice and appreciate the different types of people, not just women, and their unique set of experiences.

The more you expand your world, the more you open your eyes, the more you learn that people are more or less the same. That boiled down, people all have the same wants, desires, hopes and dreams, and it's about moving past these external barriers and learning to connect. That's what I believe being a Renaissance man is about. It's learning about the world and coming to realize that we are all human and are wired to connect. We just need to remove the barriers to said connection.

That is why I aspire to be a Renaissance man.
