After reading NJ's recent (and great) article on fundamentals, it got me thinking about breath more (even though the article is on intangibles, just something I thought about as a sidenote).
When I first studied how to meditate, it's all about breathing with the belly. Place your hands on your belly, and when you breathe, you should be pushing your hands out and not moving your chest/shoulders at all. This same breathing technique is important for playing a wind instrument (e.g., saxophone) and running. It took me a while to adapt to this new breathing style. The reason you breathe like this is because it's more efficient and pulls in deeper breaths.
But now, I realize that this breath is not good for looking sexy! It makes you look bloated. Now, when I go out and about, I'm going to change my style of breathing to puff up the chest and move the shoulders slightly. You look thinner and stronger. I'm basically having to relearn the "wrong" way to breathe all over again.
It's a fundamental that I haven't even been focusing on.
Now, there is one aspect that I think is fine. In meditation, a common style is to breathe in with the nose and breathe out with the mouth. Breathing like this (with an open mouth) can make you look unintelligent, but more relateable and down-to-earth. You have to adapt depending on the people/environment. It can also make you look sexy, as Owen Wilson masterfully portrays:
IMO, this appears best with a longer face and longer nose.
Despite being a comedian, Owen Wilson makes some really good faces (the pucker and the dreamy eye):
On an unrelated note, this reminds me of a tip by a famous model (Tyra Banks?) to always hit all of your vowels in a photo shoot. Of course, I don't recommend you going into a bar and doing all of those facial poses, but if you go to the mirror and do A-E-I-O-U, you can see each facial pose and try and figure out what looks best in what situation. O is the breathing out of the mouth example. U is the pucker example and is pretty sexy. If you're very close physically to a women and have strong eye contact, I think O and U are very strong sexually.
EDIT: I forgot to mention breathing slowly. Breathe slowly with the chest and imagine that you're staring into the eyes of a beautiful woman while her hand is placed on your chest feeling your heartbeat. There's just something to it. You don't want to be a panting dog.
