Bypass an Expat Forum, Do people meet this way too?

Hi GUys,

i was browsing through the web when i found foreigners gather in a forum and talk about making new friends and meeting at a location. IS this expat kind of thing reliable, or do you prefer getting to know the people in the city streets to know how what, who and how is the city going about? and also if you are overseas.

Thoughts, if you guys happen to bypass this kind of forums.

I have done it.

It depends on the group. Some I've gone to have been "social" groups. Basically people who've moved here like me, like to get together for drinks, dinners, activities and yes it's a good way to make friends as people are generally in the same situation as yourself. They are open to meeting people.

I've also gone to some which are more busines orientated so it's more about swapping business cards.

To be honest though, they aren't really a place to go as a meat market. If you go with the intention of pickup, unless you score very quickly and get away from the group then... well.. you are entering an existing social circle. If you try hooking up with a lot of girls quickly and especially if you succeed, they will know. You are severelly limiting your options.

If you are just looking to meet other expats and make friends, then yes, it can be a good thing to try out.
