Called a girl by the wrong name...

Hello,

So I got a girls number but I decided to be the funny guy (big mistake) and crack a joke afterwards, which resulted in me calling this girl by the wrong name... That did not turn out well cos her facial expression went from happy to straight up "what the fuck..." I didn't apologize because The first thing that came to mind was to not apologize. Instead I just laughed and said, "Wow... this guy..." After that we just went our separate ways but I was totally beating myself up afterwards cos I do this all the time.

Would it be wise to apologize over text and telling her I'll make it up to her somehow, which could possibly lead to her asking "by doing what?" and then I tell her to let me take her out to by her a meal, I'm paying? Or would she be pissed and probably not take the bait?

Also, if anyone has a little memory trick for remembering people's names that would be great!

Memory tricks are the fucking greatest - also known as mnemonics.

There are a couple things you can do -

Repeat her name a few times upon introduction:

Me: "So, what do I call you?"
Her: "My name's Kathy."
Me: "Hmm Kathy. So what brings you here on such a beautiful day, Kathy.

Turn their name into an object or a rhyme:
For a name like Kathy I'd probably picture a cat because Kathy sounds like catty a bit =P

Then have the person and the object interact in a crazy scene:
So Kathy might have three cats hanging from her earings =P

ANOTHER EXAMPLE

Me: "Hey man, crazy party, right? What's your name?"
Guy: "My name's Eric"
Me: "How do you know XYZ, Eric?"

I'd put his name into a rhyme Eric the Parrot (slant rhyme)

Then imagine a scene: Eric's parrot at home deals drugs to pay rent.

The crazier the scene - the stronger your ability to remember the name.

My name:
Richard, what do you do in your free time?

Richard the lizard.

Richard's pet lizard Zeus eats girls that reject it.
