FR Can you turn a girl from cold to hot?

So i enter the bank and fill up a form. There's a girl filling up her form toward my left. I don't look at her at all. After getting into the male line i see her join the female line. Only then i notice that i have seen the girl in my college a few times. I beat myself up about how i can approach her and get super nervous. After waiting for like half an hour, and her looking at my direction either to get my attention or look at other things (i don't know which), she finally completes her transaction in the counter. I'm pretty nervous to open cause others may hear and it may not go well but for the sake of reference i say excuse me as soon as she is about to leave. She stops with a poker face. I ask her if she goes to xxx college. She answers yes. Then i ask her if she's still in college, she replies yes again. I say i want to talk about something and ask her if she has 2 minutes. She says yes. I walk outside, she follows. Then outside where there are not many people and we are not within earshot, I ask some general questions about college, what she was doing at the bank etc. I'm giving her good eye contact, smiling and all but her face is quite non reactive the whole time. She asks me twice if there was something i wanted to ask her (meaning why i talked to her in the first place). I should've said i found her attractive or something similar but i didn't have the guts to go direct. So i just denied that there was nothing. Then we said our goodbyes. No name exchange, no handshake, no flirting, nothing.

Basically i think that she was not interested in me at all, also not telling her what my intentions were made things even worse. Even then my ego wants to believe that she was checking me out multiple times standing in the line and then i when i didn't return any gaze the whole time and suddenly engaged her much later, she auto rejected and went cold. Is this even possible, girl auto rejecting during the approach?? (i strongly think she wasn't interested plain and simple, but just curious if it's possible)

Where do you think things went wrong?

Also, do you have any experience where the girl was cold before, but after you let her know you found her attractive she became animated?

I think what was missing was some sense of commonality....

"You look familiar, don't go go to my school?"

"Yes, I'm studying Childhood development there"

"Oh cool, so do you know Lori there? She is an adjunct professor and I see her at this dance club we go to on the weekends" (here you establish something in common. Could be the dorm you are in , the professors, sorority sisters , etc. this example also bridges to an activity you could do with the target, and gives you preselection with someone you know in common)

Hey, I've got to get to an appointment , but if you give me your number, I'll call you the next time we are going to the club."
