Hey guys.

I'm looking for some good characters to emulate and learn from at the moment, and while there are a few people in real life who I'm beginning to mimic, I would appreciate some movie characters in specific roles who you guys would recommend to take on characteristics of, and certain things about those characters that are good examples.

Thanks!

Depends on your personality type, but here's a few off the top of my head.

Tony Stark (Iron Man)- My personal role model, Stark is witty and resourceful. Best suited for extraverted guys with high intelligence and a bit of narcissism.
James Bond- Mentioned a lot on this site. Bond is the strong, silent type. Best suited for more introverted guys with a strong constitution
Vin Diesel (any of his movies)- Hyper masculine, edge to the max. Best for bigger introverted guys who don't fuck around. Ironically, he's gay, but you'd never know from watching his movies.
Barney Stinson (How I met your mother)- High energy, lots of humor. Best for insecure guys who use their humor as a shield. This works best for former class clowns. Should only be adopted as a stepping stone.
Capt. Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)- Flamboyant and brash. Best suited for metrosexual guys who have trouble finding their edge.

There's plenty more, but those are just a couple. I'll comment with others later.

I disagree with the idea of having a role model or emulating anyone, especially celebs, since you barely know them when it comes to personality. Doubt Robert Downy Jr is as charismatic and cheeky in real life as he is when he plays Iron Man and plus, he is an actor. What you should do is read books which have received awards and mold yourself into being a role model for those around you.

Regardless of whether the actors act like their characters in real life (RDJ arguably does), the value in observing and learning from these men doesn't lie in whether we know these guys as friends/mentors, but rather in observing how they carry themselves and demonstrate the fundamentals that are talked about on this site. Honestly, unless you have someone in your life who exhibits these qualities (a father/brother/uncle/friend/etc.), there really is no better substitute than TV and movies for seeing how an alpha male acts. The point is not to become a clone of the character, but rather to see what works for different personalities, and draw the best parts from that.

Wanted to bump this thread and add Kliff Kingsbury to it, a guy in his 30s who coaches football for Texas Tech University. Former Quarterback but now in his 30s he looks better than he ever has and is seen as a heartbreaker. Players and students on campus look up to the guy.

You could try emulating Ryan gosling in crazy stupid love. He shows some great skill in that movie.

I've tried to imitate celebrities/characters/etc., and I think it's a great resource to pull from. However....

If possible, get some friends that are good with women in your life. They're a much better resource to learn from. Basically, start analyzing your friends a bit (not talking about psychotherapy, just noticing details) and pull the good traits you like about them and integrate that into your own style.

Seeing them in action and mannerisms/etc. in person gives a much clearer picture.

In addition to the guys already mentioned, I also like James Franco (and his brother Dave), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper with Bruce Willis [also great] and Don Jon), and Justin Timberlake. The Francos do a great job of making people feel comfortable and having a fun time and great facial expressions. Gordon-Levitt has great posture, voice, confidence, and eye contact in the 2 movies mentioned (and in life). JT's voice is a little high, but great fashion, posture, eye contact, and demeanor.

And of course, there's George Clooney and Brad Pitt (and maybe Tom Cruise?).

Chase mentions Ryan Reynolds a lot. I'd probably put him with Tony Stark as Thinkingenigma describes.

When Thinkingenigma said James Bond, I think most guys refer to either Sean Connery or Daniel Craig. I prefer Craig's sex appeal.

Bradley Cooper has a nice air of sophistication about him, mature and been around the block.

I'm missing a lot. If I think of some more, I'll make sure to come back.
