If you have followed my journal, you may know that I have begun to train myself in the art of day game cold approaching. And this FR is about one of those.

Wednesday two weeks ago

**Before conversation**
Wednesday I decided to read a novel in a very small coffee shop. Of course I'm doing this just to raise the odds of meeting girls I would like to approach. I could follow what was happening with my peripheral vision. At one point, this girl sits down on the chair on the other side of my table, but with her back turned against me (she had a table of her own). She was brunette wearing a tight white shirt with long sleeves, a tight black skirt and leggings with a funny black/white pattern - also glasses. But her physical appereance didn't matter that much because I had reached a point where I just wanted to try to open a complete stranger. And she was alone, so when she sat down

I must have read for about 40-45 minutes before she got up and goes to the bathroom. Knowing that she would return (she left her laptop open where she was writing this huge ass document), I kept reading, and eventually she got back. After 50-60 seconds I finished a chapter, moved my head up from the book to look around. This time her back was not turned against me, but her side was. She was drinking water from her bottle while starring at something, perhaps the wall. In my head, I sensed that this was the right time to open her, and I did froze for a few seconds. I was about to hesitate like I had done previously. Then I just looked at her laptop for two seconds and opened her sitauationally

**Conversation**
Me: What are you writing?
Her: (turn head against me to recognize that yes, she is the one I'm talking to) oh, it's an application for an internship.
Me: Really? What's it about?
Her: (something about intermediating between conflicting countries)
Me: Then you must study political science?
Her: Exactly. I am actually going to a lecture soon, it takes so much of my time.
Me: Yeah, I know what you mean..
Her: What do you do yourself?
Me: I'm a medical student, but taking the term off as we speak. So obviously I go to coffee shops to read books (I show her my book as I say this, and she laughs). Nice to meet you. I'm ajay
Her: Marie (we shake hands)
Me: Marie. So what is it about political science that interests you?
Her: (talks about how she does not like everything in political science because of disinterest, boring teachers and so on, but this particular area - being middleman between conflicting countries - did catch her attention, and so she was writing her master thesis about this). It gets on my nerve when countries because of their different policies go to war with each other, bomb each other, kill each others' innoncent citizens...
Me: ... so instead, you want them to cooperate through dialogue? (I lift my index finger to point at my mouth as I say this)
Her: Exactly!
Me: Tell me about it. (I relate by talking about my different social circles)
Her: And that is exactly the kind of role I want to play, just between countries instead.
Me: That's so cool. What do you do for fun?
Her: (I don't remember what she said, I could just feel in my head and that I was running tired and needed to close for my own sake)
Me: I see. You know what, I'm meeting a friend soon (which I wasn't, just needed an excuse to leave), and you seem like a cool chick. Let's meet up for coffee another time.
Her: (She was caught by surprise and hesitated for two seconds)Yeah, sure

**After conversation**
So she gave me her number and mentioned how she was busy because of exams in December, Christmas and New Year's Eve, we hugged goodbye, and when I was leaving the shop, I looked her way, and we waved each other goodbye. 5-10 minutes later, I entered a book store to send an ice breaker (it was cold outside). "Hey mediator of conflicts, nice to meet a new friend :) Here's my #. a-jay" She didn't respond to it. Last Monday I sent another text

Me: "Hey Marie, how was your weekend? :)" (Monday 10:16 pm)
Her: "Good, funny, busy :)" (Tuesday 10:42 am)
Me: "What'd ya do? :)" (Wednesday 1:06 pm)

Now it's a week ago, and she hasn't responded yet. Obviously, I responded waaaaay too late myself because I was caught up with work last week, but I wonder if I should just have asked if we should have grabbed that coffee sometime soon.

**Own final thoughts**
I feel great because I managed to push myself to speak to a stranger and have a conversation for like 3-4 minutes. And I'm glad I'm not expecting anything since I'm just starting out talking to strangers. But looking at the interaction now, I can see how logical it was, and how it lacked banter.

I have some questions

1. What should I assume based on our conversation and texts - do I have a shot with this girl or not?
2. Is politics a topic you should discuss with a girl at all?

I would also like any other feedback if you find anything missing or something I could have done better.

Cheers

the right date makes getting her back home a piece of cake

Hey man, way to get out there and approach some girls. I'll let the more experienced guys do the advice-giving, although I'd guess at this point the best advice is to just keep going out and meeting new girls, and moving each interaction forward as far as possible, so you can get some real experience, or "data-points" if you will.

I was just wondering, when you're reading and simultaneously watching things with your peripheral vision, are you able to actually read the book and follow the plot, or do you just pretend to read and turn the page every so often?

I was actually following the plot (this novel was freaking intriguing!) I had taken a seat so I could see how many entered and left. The only reason I knew how Marie was dressed was because she took the seat in front of me. I could vaguely tell what other customers looked like or how they were dressed with peripheral vision.
