Compliment response game

Good evening, I searched the articles but could not find a writing on this. What do you do when a girl gives you a compliment? I have had this happen to me twice recently, both with cashiers and I thought both were cute. I have not been open to pursuing cashiers besides just small talk and being polite. Should I try to game a cashier in this situation? Get a compliment then say direct: 'Do you want my number?' That is what I was thinking. Both compliments were on accessories like a ring and bracelet but I take it as a bellwether that my overall fundamentals and vibe is good.

it's just a compliment, and a potential conversation starter so cool your jets.

There is a thousand articles on how to give or not give a compliment but nothing on how to field compliments.

When someone gives you a compliment, you give a compliment back.
At the very least compliment people from noticing.
