I was reading a couple of GC articles the other day and got a bit confused on how to interpret these two for social circle game:
In the article "Stop Auto-Rejecting Girls Who Like You", under the section "Opinions of Friends" Hector talks about a time when he stopped escalating with a girl because she said her friend really liked him (and he wanted to go out with the friend). He then says if he'd continued it would have probably helped him with the friend because of pre-selection. He ended up not going out with the girl's friend because of his "reputation" though (playboy?) and it sounds like he lost both girls. Now of course, the article "Why the Status of Women You Sleep with Matters in Social Circle" mentions that when you sleep with a girl in your social circle, the lower levels open up, but the higher levels get locked down. So would it actually have helped if Hector had went all the way with the first girl?
From reading both articles it sounds like you should obviously be sleeping with the high status girls in a social group, but it seems any pre-selection you gain from hooking up with a girl in your social circle who isn't the highest status will actually lock up some girls and tilt your reputation more towards that of a playboy? In particular, I am confused how to interpret this when you have a situation such as:
In your social circle, girl X likes you - she's mid-status and decently attractive, slightly on the outer rim of your circle. X is friends with Y and Y is more attractive and slightly higher status, Y is also closer towards the center of your social circle. You ideally want to go out with Y - who you are getting mixed signals from, but X would be an easier pull. You're not interested in dating X, but you are fine with having a casual hookup.
This is similar to a personal situation I have and the above example is the simplest way I could put it. Couple of other caveats: I'm on the inexperienced side, though I definitely don't come off that way in the group and I have a good reputation as a pretty cool guy. Also, both of these girls are more on the conservative side (I'm in Europe), especially Y. I am thinking that because I am still relatively inexperienced I should probably just go forward with X since I could probably do with more reference points, though should still remain discreet about it.
