It may help to post some chats you thought were good.

My guesses are you failed to escalate your "week-long chats" quick enough, or you failed to secure compliance. That, or you failed to build interest compared to another guy.

Generic advice, I know. But without examples, we're grasping at straws. You'd be surprised how often seemingly 'good' conversations turn out to be misguided meandering.
