TLDR: Can girls keep themselves as orbiters pretending to be friends for years when they actually like you?

Full story:

So went out last night and for the sake of anonymity saw my friend Jane.

Jane is a great girl and we've been friends for like 4 years now. She's fairly attractive but not my type in the slightest.

We've always been platonic, I've never made a move on her and she's always seen me around girls. I've also slept with her cousin and everything was cool.

"Out of bounds" friend

  • Last night I meet Jane at a bar. I get tons of pre-selection as I got talking to like 5 girls while in the queue and ended up que jumping with them
  • She then asks me how I am and her 3rd reply is literally "I'm with a friend who's just your type but she's out of bounds"
  • I literally think she's joking as I've slept with her cousin but somehow her cousin's friend is magically "out of bounds"???
  • Not only that but her same cousin slept with my friend at new years and we were all mature and cool about it lol

Anyway I question it before laughing and saying whatever

I mention this to @topcat and he's convinced she likes me. I'm a little dismissive as it doesn't make sense. We've literally slept in the same bed on holiday and nothing has happened. She's just my fun party friend who I see 3x a year if that. For context she's getting older and is now 26 so maybe that's a factor but who knows.

She's also the type of girl who has lots of male friends and is often like we're such good pals, so genuinely never saw her like that.

Couple / weird behavior

  • I'm driving her and her friend home and she starts feeding me and says "she can't lie but she has a soft spot for me"
  • There was also a situation where she nearly slept with my friends but apparently she didn't to "respect" me
  • The next day she also says we should meet up without drinks "to avoid a hangover" We've had sober catch ups before but now I'm reading into it

ANYWAY - what are people's thoughts on this?

I've thought guys and girls can be friends as long as they're not attracted to each other and this was the last example in my own life that I had so a little disappointed in a way lol

I say yeah. Girls have crushes just like guys do, its possible since you friendzoned HER you were just unreachable in that way. She might have something other than just hooking up in mind though if you get what I mean.

aka marking her territory and subtly showing interest (this is a huge sign of interest in woman language)

There was also a situation where she nearly slept with my friends but apparently she didn't to "respect" me
signalling loyalty and faithfulness

The next day she also says we should meet up without drinks "to avoid a hangover" We've had sober catch ups before but now I'm reading into it
literally asking you out on a date..

HELLO
she wants to be your girlfriend

case closed nigga ;p

also based on observation, not how it works with women.

they slot you into a useful position or they delete you from their lives. you can also shift in position which is indicated in a shift in their behaviour towards you.

you’re either a nobody, a useful friend (friend zone), a potential bf or lover, a lover/bf or autorejected (aka a nobody) there are no straight male “just friends” with women.

i’d also go so far as to say all of women’s friendships are friendships of opportunity and convenience (evidenced in how easily they change female friends).

Lol I’m embarrassed - case closed it is.

I’m going to continue playing dumb as she’s a cool friend who’s company I enjoy platonically.

I also realised she said she doesn’t want to hang out with my boys anymore (“as it’s awkward”) but guess that’s just her trying to isolate me

Only question I have is why make this move now & not before?

The vibe I get from your post is the same I get from a girl who is completely oblivious about a guy liking her :D

Hahahah guilty as charged. The more you get girls, the more you subconsciously pick up their traits. I’m now genuinely into horoscopes too lol

This is the kind of girl who’d take care of you. Kind of like how pimps don’t get sexually intimate with alot of their girls, yet the girls will literally do anything for him.

Im just sayin if you were the kind of guy who needed money from a girl or to use their car or a place to stay…. lol

Yes. I have some of these. Even when they get into a relationship you notice they still have a soft spot for you. To be honest it is quite obvious when this is the case, also other female acquaintances mention this in passing.

I find this to be a bit of a difficult subject.. Sometimes I truly figure a girl is not interested at all and merely is a friend (which I am fine with, I actually enjoy female friends) and then when I show a gesture of goodwill they can "switch". And you get this subconscious that not everything is "just friends" as it seems. I think this is a grey area to be honest. Between men and women there is always tension, even those who have called me "just friends" still admire my arms and such so...
