Hey wassup guys,

Thought to start a thread for edgy hairstyles for black guys since I haven't come across any yet considering the texture and general length of our hair. So that said, apart from keeping a clean cut with the classic hairstyles, I don't think there's much in the form of edgy hairstyles for african americans....I do hope to be proven wrong, though. The ones I see on models etc are mostly over-the-top and I'm thinking something mildly edgy that can still be worn to work and for presentations etc etc.

So suggestions welcome. The ones I have found are:
- Cornrows
- Afro
- Curly hair done into various styles a la Denzel or some Will Smith pictures
- Mohawk - but again, not much mileage when it comes to even semi formal gatherings
- 360 waves - this is what I'm thinking of working on and sporting. It says 'cool guy' though and not so much 'edgy guy' which is why I'm still wondering. For those who don't know what this is, there are two pictures of it attached to this post.

Again, suggestions welcome and hope this thread helps someone....else. Lol.

I've got dreads, but then again, I've invested four years into it. On the bright side, girls always touch my hair, comment on it, etc. Letting your hair do whatever while keeping it clean is something black guys can do that most white guys can't. Hopefully someone else can bring insight to this. I also want to bring up some other black guys in pick up issues.

I'd say this one's pretty edgy if you ask me.

Though deff not for everybody, it combines the clean cut of a fade (which is pretty popular with pretty much every race right now), with the edginess of braids, but minus the negative connotations some people have with standard cornrows and box braids etc. It also has a "pretty" quality to it which if combined with an overall masculine vibe, i think would work well in attracting women of all races. Not too aggressive looking for white girls, not too "childish" or hood for black girls, and overall generally creative and edgy. I'd probably only suggest it for young people in creative fields though (graphic designers, artists, musicians, dj's etc.). As i said not for everybody but deff unique and edgy if pulled off right...an utter disaster if not.

Thanks guys for the insights.

Dreads are really cool and I'd say I'm a dreads-girl kind of guy. I just absolutely love dreads and shades on a woman. But dreads take a while and require some effort to get to that point where it just speaks for itself. Also, I think there are some face types that dreads would just not work for. But for those who can put in the time and effort, great option there for some edginess.

@Topcat The picture you posted is plenty edgy. I like it. But I don't think it is as versatile as I would like which you already mentioned when you said its for the people in the more artsy professions. I think Advertising, which is one of my options, would accept this kinda hairstyle well though.

Anyways, thanks guys. More input welcome and what do you guys think about the 360 waves hairstyle?

360 waves are pretty cool. Pretty low effort too, right? You can also keep your dreads short, and you can mix it with a fade and 1 inch dreads on top. That's how mine came out when I first got them an they stuck straight up. But the 360 waves gives a clean, smooth look.
