Recently, my friend got a date by messaging a random girl (not within social circle, but same city/state) on facebook. I gave this a shot just for fun with a couple of random girls, but no replies. It's not really something I'm taking seriously, but entertaining.

Has anyone had luck messaging random people on facebook?

I usually have to comment on looks because other information is private. Here is a message I sent a girl. It's probably bad, let me know how you would improve it! Thanks.

"hi, has anyone ever told you that you look like Amy Adams and Winona Ryder's lovechild? -- this is a compliment :) My first new year's weekend was insane! how was yours? -MyName"

Facebook is not a great place to get a girl. You can't really use your picture and a friendly message to turn a girl on. Not even if you were Adonis himself. Chances are, girls wi find you a creep, why else would you not be approaching them in real life instead of behind a computer screen. Online dating can be done, but its so much easier to go to the library and hit on the cute girl that is in your favorite section.

Yes, very true. Approaching in person is my main focus and getting dates that way. I just thought I'd send a few FB messages out to try it. The challenge kind of makes it a fun experiment. I only messaged a couple of random girls, but I think I won't do it again to avoid the "creepy" perception.

Why to NOT Meet Girls on Facebook

Cheers,

Franco

Ah, no, I didn't read that. Thanks Franco. It makes a lot of sense. I'm glad other people have already tried & felt the whiplash, so I don't have to go through the same thing.

I feel like an idiot now.

And you know, I have thought about deactivating my facebook for the same reasons Chase has mentioned. There are lot of "fake" friends. I have tried to weed mine out throughout the years, always maintaining about 200 friends, but I still know that most of those still aren't true "friends." True friends would probably be around 10-20 (in Aristotle's "Philia of Good" it is only about 5). I still can't pull myself to delete my facebook though.

I'm definitely not going to spend all the time on my profile, the picture, etc.
