On Saturday night I went to the pub to watch some bands. A band had just finished their set so I walked over to a group of friends chatting near the stage. I noticed a girl I’d never met standing to the side of the group so I turned to face her.

The moment I was facing her she very enthusiastically said “HI!” and we began talking. I move her to the beer garden, we sit down and engage in some light conversation. After about 10 minutes she suggests we grab a drink, so we head to the bar and she buys me a drink even though it was her birthday.

Fast forward to near the end of the night… It’s time to move her again, either home or another venue. So I’m in the process of determining what she’s comfortable doing when another girl interrupts…

This girl has liked me for more than a year and she’s quite vocal about it. I’ve told her straight on 3 or 4 past occasions I only like her as a friend but it always results in the same… She storms off upset, sends a message a few hours later to apologize, but repeats the cycle next time I see her.

This time Lover Girl proceeds to invite herself back to my place right in front of New Girl. I tell Lover Girl no it’s not a good idea and try to talk her out of it but to no avail. She keeps persisting!

I’ve I’m feeling light headed because of the drinks and I don’t want to be nasty to her in front of New Girl so my best solution is to invite them both home. New Girl isn’t keen on that so she goes her own way leaving me to deal with Lover Girl.

Walking back to my place Lover Girl asks “is going anywhere” to which I respond with utmost annoyance “No, this is never going anywhere!” Again, she storms off upset and sends me a message a few hours later to which I haven’t bothered to read yet.

I know Lover Girl wasn’t deliberately trying to cockblock me because she’s so damn self-centred she was oblivious to what was happening with New Girl. But seriously! She hijacked the interaction and I couldn’t find amicable way to dismiss her.

What is the correct way to handle a situation like that?

Thanks, that is a much more sensible solution.

I thought it was because I smelled nice...

Usually they just stare across the room, others give approach invitations, others do silly things to get attention... but if I'm really really lucky some will open me. However, the majority are unhelpful and seem to make things more difficult than they need to be, no matter how attracted they seem to be.
