What's up y'all,
A field report here, hope you enjoy it.
A little background. Its snowing here in Vancouver during late February. I'm a student studying mechanical engineering and went out alone for the night. Btw, I'm Asian, and wear glasses.
I take the 30 minute skytrain ride to downtown, and get off at Granville, and head towards Robson St, where most of the bars and clubs are. Two Asian girls walked in front of me dressed well, and one of them almost slipped. I told to be careful, and gave them a smile.
I walked on ahead, grabbed a slice of pizza, and went into the Belmont bar at around 10:30. It was quite quiet there, and I grabbed myself a drink and sat down. There really want much to do there I felt like.. two guys asked me for a cigarette, but I don't smoke anymore.
Later on, the two Asian girls I met came into the bar, and proceeded to order drinks and sat at a table booth behind me. As I finished my drink, I mustered the courage to walk up to them, and tell them that I saw them earlier. The one girl (the younger and hotter one) asked me what I was up to.. and I said that I just wanted to go for a drink. She was surprised that I was by myself, and after she told me that she is having drinks with her friend, and her friend didn't seem like she was too receptive to me there, I excused myself to the washroom lol.
When I went back out, the cute girl gave me a look of interest, but I really didn't know what to say to her. So I left the bar, and checked out some other places.
Walking around, there were a bunch of cute girls that were obviously drunk, and we met at a crosswalk. They were mostly white girls, and one Asian girl, and one of them had fallen in the snow lol. They were a part of a big group of girls, around 8 girls and one guy. The Asian girl asked me to press the crosswalk button and I did.. Nothing too interesting there, although I really was curious where they were heading for the night.
So I checked out some other clubs, but didn't have cash on me, and I couldn't go in, so I went back to the Belmont Bar at 12:00. there were two cute Asian chicks and a guy outside the line. They were talking to the bouncer for a while, and it seemed like they were looking for someone. I asked them that, and they just told me that they're looking for cash to get in. I replied oh I see, and went inside.
Back inside again, it was more packed this time around. The two girls from early on were gone. I had tequila shot on my own, opened a tab with the bartender, who introduced his name to me. I grabbed another beer from him and headed to the dance floor.
To be fair, I'm not really much of a dancer. I'm quite introverted, so you can imagine me there nursing a beer and just moving my hips lightly lol.
Two girls were dancing, and they were giggling around me, and pointing to me, and I knew something was up. One of the girl was telling me that they were playing a game, and that she had to kiss me. I couldn't help but laugh, and said yeah sure, and we kissed.
I went to take a seat near the walls, and there was this sexy latina girl just sitting there by herself with a beer. We chat (friendly banter) and I find that she's in Vancouver for vacation for four days, on her way back to Mexico.
Here's how I recall how the convo started:
Her: glances at me..
Me: hey, how are you ? *Cheers her with the beer bottle
Her: she asks me where I'm from.
Me: Hong Kong originally.
Her: "really, I love Hong Kong, I was there recently" *shows me her Instagram pic, and shows a pic of her in mong kok.
Me: I tell her that's cool lol. That's where my home is.
Her: she asks me about me..
Me: I tell her a bit about what im studying, that i live in Vancouver, would love to travel one day.
Her: she tells me about her troubles at the airport earlier, and that she had just arrived from Thailand, and so she couldn't sleep right now, and that's why she's here. The weather is crazy too, so she has to buy a new jacket.
At this point.. I notice the two cute Asian chicks, and other chicks seem to gravitate in front of me. Haha.. very peculiar. U guys ever have that happen ?
So I finished my beer and grabbed another one, and I asked her if she wants to dance.
She said she doesn't really know how to dance, and I replied neither did I, for it was true. She is latina, and I am Asian. Stereotypes aside, she definitely had the body for it.
The music turned from rap music (migos) to edmish, Kendrick Lamar humble remix with Skrillex. Overall, the vibe was that she doesn't really dance to that music, and I kind of understood cause this is definitely a west coast thingy. And there were other girls like dancing really.. basic? Like people would at a rave I suppose. I couldn't really offer a sexual vibe, but I did touch her periodically, asked her about her bracelet on her hands, and got to see her neck tattoo.
That went on for a bit, and something interesting happened afterwards. The guy with the two cute girls from before? Remember they were still dancing nearby from before? Well he came over and started chatting with the girl I was dancing with. I find out that he's from Australia as well, and the two girls that he's with began to dance near me.
I didn't really know what to do in this situation...
He obviously was going for the girl, while I was more of friendly bantering with her.
The other two girls danced near me, but I didn't know if I should wait for the guy to eventually introduce me to them.. Or something at least.
So I left the girl and the guy to chat to themselves, and the two cute girls were dancing very well, like teasing me even. She would dance up very close to me, and before grinding me the other girl would pull her away from it.
I didn't really know what to say unfortunately. I told them that they definitely weren't from Vancouver, and they just said no.. and they left.
They left entirely, leaving the guy from Australia with the girl I chatted with earlier. They ended up sitting at a table, and I felt weird like sitting up with them.
I got the girls Instagram account, but yeah, the guy probably didn't want me there.
Anyways, I left soon after I finished my drink and ended my tab with the bartender at 1:30 am. It was an interesting night, please let me know what you think, and what I can improve on.
