Wednesday nights I attend a pub run that rotates between venues. We run 3 or 4 miles then drink beer and eat after. Usually 10-20 people there. I have a core group of people I train with and there are folks who I just see that night. A few weeks ago a new woman 'Chel ,and her friends show up and I get to chatting with them as I was there for a training group meeting. I was being social to include them, but one of them was really giving me the eye contact. She has nice skin and is in pretty good shape, and has attractive features. However nothing really outstanding, in terms of attractiveness, other than an outgoing friendly personality, but not ugly by any stretch. I engaged her in conversation, both to be polite and admittedly it stroked my ego. I found out she had just celebrated her 50th birthday, and she dropped hints about her "bucket list". She had a self confidence that came from working with men in the construction industry, I found out.
Subsequent weeks she would seek me out after the run and chat me up. Always with the eye contact...There were moments I had thoughts of taking her home, that passed as I assessed my other options. I began to see if I could assess if attraction would expire. I looked at who was hanging out around her. A couple of older guys (50's, maybe early 60's) and her female friends who seemed a little nervous around me. She wasn't engaging with my core group which includes some pretty hot, athletic, single, 30 year old women.
Now I am pretty affectionate with all the women in this group. I've known many of them for up to 8 years. They greet me with hugs, and we banter. Some of them are married or have boyfriends. A couple are single and looking. It has made me more at ease around attractive women, and I've learned to read signs of attraction better. So last night, when 'Chel starts getting in my space, looking up at me and fluttering her eyelashes and brushing her breasts against my arm, I knew she was serious.
She brought up topics of events coming up. Asking me if I was going to be there.
She made multiple mentions of how she loves to cook but it was tough cooking for just one.
She asked where my kids were tonight.
She mentioned her children were out of the house
A couple of her guy friends were hanging there trying to be part of the conversation but she just ignored them and was turned towards me.
When a particularly attractive woman, who I did not know , but I think was there on a date, passed by, made eye contact and smiled at me and I returned it, she remarked slyly, "I saw that little smile"
My bluff had been called...
When I finished my beer and began bidding everyone farewell, she set down her half finished beer, and said "I'll walk out with you".
Out in the parking lot she positioned herself in front of me hand on her hip, and a grin and said "So what's your story?"
I replied " what story?"
"Women....what's your situation? "
I grinned back at her and said "Well, I'm in a Long distance relationship."
to which she replied "Ok, I'm sorry to hear that. Well let me know when ....errr. I mean IF that changes. I'm interested.
I thanked her and got in my truck flattered but kind of embarrassed that I led her on. I feel a little guilty about toying with her emotions, but I'm also curious if she is going to back off, or continue with the press...I'm definitely going to be a little more conscious about how I interact with women at these events, so as not to be labelled a creep, or a player. There had already been some inquiry among people if I was dating a woman in the group.
