A common power move from other males is to ask you to repeat yourself.

What's your way of handling it?

I'm thinking: skeptical look, getting them to ask again.

@James D,

That's one way to handle it, yeah.

Another is switching to nonverbal:

YOU: That's a kick-ass shirt, man!
HIM: Sorry, what was that?
YOU: [point at his shirt, nod approvingly, give him a thumbs up]

Or

YOU: Could you pass me a napkin, dude?
HIM: Come again?
YOU: [point at napkin, motion for him to slide it to you]

The going assumption is "He does not understand my words, so I must use body language."

Whether he doesn't understand you because a.) it's too loud, b.) no habla ingles, or c.) he's being a dick, he'll get your meaning when you gesture. Only the real major douches still try to act like they don't understand hand signals -- at which point, you just ignore the guy entirely and treat him like he doesn't even exist.

In my experience many people just respond anyways if u give them few seconds, but I suppose if he really is trying to do some power move he wont respond on purpose

I would just say "you heard me" if I am sure he is doing it on propose, after a pause first,

Are you deaf smiling, others can hear too.

Or someone else who is your friend/likely to laugh back/support He seems deaf laughing...

If it was a request to do something then doing it calmly or asking someone else near that thing

Being calm and not taking that person seriously is key

Heck if this is someone you will see on regular basis say a colleague, in college or gym ... you can make a running joke on him, someone ask him to do something ohh wait lemme do it for you, he is deaf or you know that guy is deaf or you can ask him, tell him something ohh wait forgot you are deaf any variation especially if he is someone to get irritated easily.

He gets angry mock him further ohh i was just kidding he is a good friend nice guy.

Nasty nd tooly i guess.

But people will know not to mess with you.

If it's genuine it's fine.

At times it's not.
