So I'm sitting outside a local bar going stag as usual, trying to practice my basics when I spot a group of people talking adamantly about philosophy, politics, science, etc. and among them is a woman, looks about my age and, in my opinion, one of the cutest girls I've seen into that sort of thing. I'm somewhat adept at those sorts of topics and debating, so I saunter over to them and ask what they're talking about and if I can join. They're very friendly, letting me join in and offer my opinions and it's going relatively swimmingly. Eventually, when two of the four start on their own conversation I am able to talk to the girl of interest one on one. At first she just sort of complains about her job and I'm really bad at comforting people in a sincere and lighthearted way even if I feel for them. Because of this I end up just prompting her to speak with honest questions and eventually we are able to get off the topic of her depression and move to much more interesting topics such as what she likes to do for fun, how she spends her time and the like. As the midnight oil burns, she becomes much more playful and joking and I do the same but I think I didnt really escalate like I should have. In the end I told them I had to leave, (it was late and I had work the next day) so I gave a handshake to the other girl and the guy but when I went to do the same to her she gave me a hug. In my mind, I had planned on getting her number but was to scared to let it slip forth, only asking her for her number and my getting anyone else's. So I got the guys number first since I needed it anyway because he wanted me to help him with a project I had expertise in. Then I proceeded to get hers and she accepted, putting her number in my phone. She asked if I wanted a cigarette for the road and I said sure and decided to stay and chat till I'd finished. I called her there so she would have mine and said my goodbyes a second time. She was gonna just give me a handshake since she was back to sitting down, but I kind of guided her to a standing position and she gave me a hug and laughed (was this the right move? I try not to pay attention to reactions but it's so hard!!!) In the end, I really don't know what to text her or when. She has my number and I hers so I can't just tell her my name and to save it. I'd also like to know what I could have improved on in that interaction. As a time frame reference, this was yesterday night. Thanks in advance for all the help Girlschase bros.
