Handling disrespectful guys (competition) when you are approaching girls?

Hypothetical:

Say you see this cute girl, you go up to her and start talking to her and the two of you click. Some guy comes along and he also wants her. He starts trying to disrespect you, step into your space, physically take you out of the picture, and just does anything to get her attention over yours. How do girls view this and how should you address it?

I get "aggressive" guys trying to disrespect me by trying to verbalize me indirectly and coming into conversation, but physically taking me out? Nope. There's a few articles that address this problem.

This isn't a trouble unlike in clubs, where i got shoved even when i was not involved. Learning self defense is a good thing.
