Hey gents,

We had to let our image gal go a little while back, and I've found it a bit hard finding a solid images person to replace her through conventional channels. Everyone we hire keeps trying to use all these family-friendly images on this site with like parents and children laughing and tossing colorful balls with puppies and stuff like that, which you can imagine is not really what we're going for.

Anyway, we are in need of someone who'd like to come on for an ongoing gig doing this (6 months or more). It'll generally take you anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes to do images per article, with about 3 to 6 articles coming through your inbox per week, and the schedule's flexible. There probably aren't enough hours per month at this point to pay your rent with, but if you'd like a little extra coin to for more beer money or to buy your groceries with, plus unlimited access to the articles on GC of course, this'll be right up your alley.

Here're the details:

  • Must have a good eye for images - pics that look good, fit their respective articles, etc.
  • Must be able to pick images that tell a story and enhance (rather than distract!) from a piece
  • Must have Photoshop - you don't have to be super expert with it; everything you'll do with it we have instructions for

If you're a frequent reader here and your aesthetic sense is ace, you probably have a good idea of the kind of images we use on this site. Just in case you're not though - https://www.girlschase.com; have a look!

If this sounds interesting to you, please fire off an email letting us know some of your background with images / graphics / Photoshop / etc., along with how long you think you'd be available to keep at a flexible hours part-time role like this assuming it's a good fit for you and you like the role, to hiring@girlschase.com.

Look forward to having you on the team!

Do you have to have Photoshop? Or would GIMP be sufficient?

Photoshop is super expensive for most people (unless already working in the graphic design industry where it's required).

Hey Pinot-

I suspect you can probably pull off all the same things in GIMP, however I'm not as familiar with the software myself and only have details for Photoshop ATM.

All we're using Photoshop though for is:

  • Color managing images
  • Creating .png subheaders from a template (.psd)
  • Using the Photoshop "Save for Web" function to optimize .jpg images

Assuming all that can be done in GIMP (which it should be able to be I'd imagine, since GIMP is a close parallel to Photoshop), no complaints on this end!

I'd love to help out! I'm familiar with the site and frequent the forums and can do anything photoshop wise you could possibly ever come up with, plus I like extra coin.

Hey Chase,

this sounds like a job I'll excel at. I'm a designer by trade, very image based with an eye for visual storytelling and aesthetics. Here's my personal tumblr unclewarlord.com. It's a tad on the edgy side, but it should give you an idea of my eye for images.
Feel free to hmu if interested.

Topcat ;)

Sounds like you have some potentially great guys here with photoshop, so I'm going to gracefully bow out ;)

You guys should email hiring@girlschase.com.

Haha, understood, Pinot. Well, so long as we keep growing there should be other roles for folks who want to be involved in some capacity at some point. I'll keep the boards posted.

Marksman, Topcat, if you fellas remain interested, please do make sure you've dropped something in the "hiring" inbox. We've got a few applications already but not sure if any of these are from you gents.

Anyway, I will page through what we have in that inbox a little later this week!

Couldn't quite find the "hiring" inbox, but I sent an email containing all requested info via the general contact us form. Hope that's sufficient!

Hey Chase,

This is something I'd love to help out with. I'm a photographer, and I have a background in graphic design (I've been doing paid work since middle school), so I've got you covered if you need me. I'll send my resume and portfolio to you in just a sec.
