Did 2 outings the past 2 days in an attempt to complete day 5 of the newbie assignment ("Hi, how's your day going?"), but was unable to engage 6 girls and ask them that question. The only girls I managed to say that to were a few hired guns. I personally don't count those and there wasn't much dialogue, so I'm going to skip writing those few interactions down. I did notice quite a few glances from girls as I was walking around, and even got some IOI's from a hired gun. I noticed 2 big things that I have also struggled with in past instances where I have gone out during the day.
1) The pre-approach.
I feel like I'm taking the "don't make eye contact unless she looks at you first" way too far. Although I do use my peripherals to see if girls are glancing my way, I don't really know when or how I'm supposed to look at them. And sometimes I can't tell if they're glancing at me with my peripherals. I know I'm probably overthinking and overanalyzing this part, but it is something I've struggled with.
Should I just make eye contact while walking by even if they aren't looking at me first? To me, it seems much more comfortable if I make eye contact with someone and then proceed to start a conversation or ask them how their day is going/variation. What do you guys do pre-approach when you're out running daygame? Do you just make eye contact and smile or do you use pre-opening? Also, I'm referring to shopping-type venues not the street. Stuff like department stores, grocery stores, shopping malls/centers, and other small stores.
2) Niche selection/Places with good turnout.
I live in the suburbs and the venues I visit tend to be in smaller cities. There is a medium-sized city where my university is located that is 6-7 miles away, but it's no like there are various stores that I can pop in and out of. It's mostly food/restaurants and pubs. Perhaps I need to do some more exploring?
When I've read about most places to approach during the day (that are not in a social context like business/networking events and other), it mostly comes out to coffee shops, grocery stores, bookstores and department stores/malls. The only multi-level bookstore in my area is a Barnes n' Noble located about 20 min or so away. the next one is in Cleveland which is about a 45-50 min drive. Same with the malls. There is one mall close to my house but it is smaller and slowly going out of business. I honestly don't go there much as the main mall most people go to in my area is the one that is 15-20 min away (which is the one I went to on Thurs.). Besides those 2, the next ones are farther out, like 30-60 min away.
I'm thinking of just going to a bunch of stores in one area/plaza and approach 1-2 girls per store plus some hired guns. I'm not sure if this is sustainable longer-term though. Does anyone have any experience running daygame in smaller cities? What has worked for you guys in terms of finding decent places to approach?
I'm off to a slow start with the newbie assignment, but it's revealing some glaring weaknesses that have been persistent and that I've overlooked. Got two weeks left until my deadline (about 12 outings). I'll be repeating day 5 again today.
