Higher status vs lower status women, how to differentiate?

In a more closed setting like high school and college, it was fairly obvious what girls were higher status (from a wealthier and prestigious background) and which ones were lower status. In a more school setting, the higher status girls often ran in certain groups (sororities being good examples) which set them apart from most other guys.

I might sound harsh here but for LTRs, I much rather date a girl from a wealthier (at least middle class) family.

If you don't personally know the girl and just see her out in public, how do you differentiate? How can you tell?

Is it a safe bet to just move to an expensive part of a big city and try your luck that way or what?

I'm thinking focusing on exclusive events. Country clubs, Polo matches, Winery clubs, Yacht club, Benefit events.

If you are active, there are sports that tend to attract higher income people. Have you seen the price of mountain and road bikes lately? Triathletes need to have the time to train, and frequently tend to be 6 figure income earners. Polo players are notoriously well to do.
