How do you pre-open?

Im confused on this, i usually spot a girl and as I get closer I make eye contact, I smile, step in front of them with my hand up, and say excuse me i thought you were cute blah blah.

Thinking of pre-opening seems odd to me, go up to a girl without eye contact, tap her elbow, she looks at me, i look at her then say hi there. I usually say excuse me.

pre-opening seems highly recommended. Can anyone give more example on how you do it for certain situations?

I simply just stand or sit a place where I'm noted by most. If there's a 2set I'm interested in I'll sit close by to them for at most 2 mins before approaching. Even better if you catch up on them laughing or shouting something and turn around to ask what the fuss is about or "what you laughing at? ".

I find a lot of the pre-open techniques a bit too canny and I started using it as an excuse for my approach anxiety. Changed it a bit and just took the "sit close by to get noted" instead of ALL of it, and improved immeasureably the months afterwards. Simply doing it all makes you passive never approaching. I'd recommend keeping it simple;
Be nearby with good fundamentals, making sure she sees you, then go over to her. Else it becomes too much of a sniper-game because rarely will you have the chance to make eye-contact when the girl is talking with people + all the other stuff going on.
Pre-opening could also be dancing and shit. It's not only what is written in the article.
