I think this is subjective, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

Partially because of my background, and partially because of my personality, I tend not to stick around in any single place or any single social group for too long - I'll hang out with people I find cool/I feel like I can learn from, but then move on. If they want to keep in contact, I'll reciprocate, but I tend not to develop very deep relationships (with a very few exceptions).

Anyway, I want to increase my social calibration, particularly in being seen as a dominant, 'cool' guy who's also warm and friendly, and being able to lead a group. Is it worth grounding myself in a social group to practice this, or is it better to keep 'loose' contact with a lot of people?

(My specific situation is that I'm at university and am being encouraged by a lover to become an administrative leader for a dance society. I'm pretty serious about the dance, but I do most of my learning outside the society, I've yet to really 'click' with anyone save one instructor, plus the males are somewhat hostile (the lover is pretty openly lusted for by everything that stands on two legs to piss) - but I'm wondering if a leadership role might be useful to engage in, even if its rocky).
