So I get this question a lot, and it has few benefits and LOTS of negatives. For instance it can tank attraction if you're out with an older woman (had this happen a few times) but also even if you are only a little outside the normal range on her upper age limit (say she's 18 and normally considers 21-23 ideal and 25/26 might make it seem weird - her friends might judge her etc).

I've worked out pretty much the only thing to do in the women older case is bend the truth, but what if you are in extended social circle??

So what would you say if you are just a little "too old" and there is an extended social circle link.... I'm not talking 40 year old with 20 year old here - just slightly bigger difference than normal....

"Old enough for you to take me home ;) "

"You need to call me Oppa" - If she's Korean

"How Old Do I Look?"

I have a baby face, so I just usually say "Old enough to be a granddad" , which always makes her laugh, and then she responds with... "lol.. no seriously!"

No too sure with how I'd handle the 'too old' denomination. Typically I get the 'too young' shit test; but I believe that you can achieve similar results with the same method.

Usually when girls ask for something such as age, they are using it as a way to qualify you for a potential boyfriend. Most girls have in mind that they'd love to marry a guy who is 2-4 years older than them, so might as well ask guys to see if they fit that criteria.

This is a test you want to fail. Actively disqualifying yourself as boyfriend material makes it easier to quickly sleep with a woman; her guard will be down from acting all perfect around you, and she can feel free.

You can also withhold the information from her and be playful as Light suggests; really any number of ways that you can spin it. If she asks the question towards the beginning of a conversation, I'd probably do a light-hearted response. However, if she asks it when sexual tension is building and an emotional connection is formed, I see no harm is disqualifying myself as a boyfriend. If she thinks her friends would judge her, just keep it a secret, which is even more conducive to quick lays ;).

9/10 I go with "How old do I look" and have a little fun with it... be mysterious... pretend you are really old if she's young or pretend you are really young if she's older.

I don't think your age really matters, it's more how you handle the question.
If you know she is 28 and you are 21 and answer her straight out with a hint of nervousness in your voice, you've already conveyed lack of confidence... with the above you can eventually tell her your real age but by then she'll see you don't really care.

Thanks for the input guys! This is exactly what I had expected and I've been using for years - sometimes you just forget things. Also I was starting to doubt the returning of the question since it can to some extent put her in a position of power - since she is judging you......

For this reason I am now doubting it for once...

This is pretty rare for me, in fact I have only been asked in about 3% of my approaches. And one of those times, it was because I asked the girl first. She said she was 19, then asked me my age. I actually rounded it up by a year, to 38, because I found the symmetry of the arithmetic oddly satisfying. :)

I got a text yesterday from a girl who gave me a whole list of reasons why she'd changed her mind about going out, concluding with "Also I'm really young." Fair enough, she already told me she was a university student, but it gave me a good laugh!
