It's been frustrating for me as a frequent commuter to see a cute girl seated right in front of me whenever I'm standing on the train and I have no idea how to open her. I've been wondering how to approach a girl when I'm in this position as well as approaching her while I'm the one who's seated...especially when the seats beside me are full and there are a lot of people around her in the train.

The situation I'm talking about kinda looks like this

So guys, do you have any tips on how to approach from this position and vice versa, where I'm the one who's seated?

Opening the pregnant girl, huh? Nasty... ;)

If the girl is right next to you, you can open up a notepad on your phone, write your opener, and then put the phone in front of her. It almost forces her to put in some investment just by looking.

Although, direct openers feel weird here, and if she doesn't reciprocate you are still gonna be sitting next to her for another few minutes. Perhaps a situational opener works better. Since the train is stuffed, you could say: "I don't know about you, but as soon as those doors open, I'm running away from this mosh pit and never looking back" (credit to Chase here). Pointing out those "elephants in the room" and framing it as an "us vs. the world" view goes a long way on a train full of awkward, silent people.

Anyways, just continue after that by talking. And, of course, try and move her to a different seat when people get up to continue increasing her investment.

Cheers,
Jake
