There are 2 types of acne. there is hormonal acne, and then there is diet based acne.

Hormonal

This one's simple. This is the acne you get when you're a teen, or if you're a woman on her period. It happens when your hormones are raging. If you're no longer a teenager, chances are you don't get this type of acne. But you might.

In men, hormonal acne is caused by too much DHT. DHT is a stronger version of testosterone. Testosterone is converted into DHT when your body has too much test. DHT is what causes balding, aging of the skin, and yes, hormonal acne in men.

There are pros and cons to blocking DHT production.

Pros: Slows down balding if it's in your family. By the way, DHT only causes balding if you're genetically predisposed.
Slows down the aging process by reducing oxidative stress.
Keeps your skin healthy if you're prone to hormonal acne.

Cons:
Lower sex drive and libido.

To keep it simple, reducing DHT lowers everything that makes a man, a man. Everything from aggression to dominance to muscle mass etc.

If you want to lower your DHT, search google for dht blockers. Saw palmetto is a popular one.

I took saw palmetto in my teenage years for about 2 months and had absolutely no libido. I stopped because I was scared I might have fucked myself up. Acne banished though.

Diet Related

This is probably where most of you get your acne form. What causes diet related acne?

2 things:
Sugar and too much carbs in general
Dairy

Sugar and Carbs:

The way carbs and sugars(sugar is a carb) cause acne is because when you eat carbs your body spikes your insulin which then increases sebum(oil) production in your face. This increase in sebum production cause the pores in your face to become blocked, which leads to inflammation, which leads to acne.

There are 2 types of carbs. There are simple carbs, and there are complex carbs. Simple carbs is sugar, Complex carbs are any non sweet carbs like potatoes, rice, pasta, etc.

Complex carbs are good, but simple carbs aren't. Simple carbs(sugar) cause the biggest spikes in insulin and lead to the biggest spikes in sebum production. Stay away from too much sugar.

As for Dairy products, in this case milk. Cow milk has a natural hormone in it called IGF-1 like growth factor. If you're familiar with bodybuilding, IGF-1 like growth factor works similarly to Human Growth Hormone. This is in milk because it helps the calf grow.

It also makes humans grow, which is why milk is so popular for gaining muscle. The problem with this is, IGF-1 like growth factor doesn't just make muscles grow, it makes everything grow, even cancer cells if you have them.

But the acne related issue with it is that like sugar, dairy increases the oil production in your face, and also increases inflammation. To top it all off, milk also contains sugar as well... Not a good combo.

Eating stuff like cheese and butter is fine from time to time. But stay away from yogurt, and any liquid dairy.

Bathroom Habits

One last thing that can cause acne, is how you clean your face. The more crap you use on your face, the worse. Forget about moisturizers and creams. This will not help you. Use only one thing, one face cleaner 1-2x a day. That's it.

The problem with cleaning your face too much is, when you do that, you strip your face of it's natural oil. This makes your body over compensate by sending more oil to your face because you literally keep stripping it off. It's like not using shampoo on your hair. At first, it gets very oily, but after a few days it recognizes that you are not stripping it of it's oil, and your body stops sending so much of it out. Same thing.

The pros of using a facial cleanser is that it does clean your face(depending if it's good). If you're going to use one, make sure it has no alcohol and try and limit yourself to using it just once at night and use just water in the morning.

Me personally, I've been washing my face with just water once a day for years now, and I no longer have acne even though I'm still in my teens.

How I Fixed My Sever Acne

Using those things above was how I went from sever acne to no acne. I had tried going to a dermatologist, using special creams, using special cleansers and moisture and doing everything and none of it worked.

What I said above did. I hope this was a useful post.

It really depends on what kind of skin you have. There are countless posts and articles (even a few threads on our boards talk about this) each with their own magic pill method or testimony about how to clear it up. As someone who's tried everything from Proactiv to minocycline to smearing egg on his face, it's just a matter of trying things out and seeing what works for you; everyone's face responds differently.

There's also more to healthy skin than just clogged pores. A lot of those products (exfoliants, masks, toners, moisturizers, etc.) won't necessarily kill off your acne, but they are super important if you want your skin looking great otherwise. Even as an adult I get breakouts periodically, but the rest of my skin looks and feels fresh and healthy. If you want to avoid looking like a field hand when you're in your 40s or 50s, do yourself a favor and take care of your skin. Even people with money can't fix that shit.

own magic pill method

No magic pill. This is how the body works, it's backed by science just do some research on it. Difference is, I'm telling why it works, others usually give faulty anecdotes.

I couldn't disagree more. You don't realize it but you're kind of contradicting yourself. All those products are blocking your pores and stripping your natural oils... which could be why you occasionally get acne.

The people that think we need "exfoliants, masks, toners, moisturizers, etc" have been brainwashed by marketing schemes who are looking to make a demand... Our bodies are self sufficient machines, do you really think we need man made products to get rid of acne and have healthy skin? Do you really think we need to use soap for our body to be nice and healthy? Do you really think we need shampoo for our hair to be clean?

When I forwent using products on my face my face no longer became oily, and along the diet it stopped breaking out. And my face has never looked better. I tried using all those products but they just didn't work. Putting products on an already pimply, oily face is the worst thing you can ever do.

Like I said, everyone's skin is different. I tried what you mentioned and my acne got worse. I did something else and it got better. You've clearly had different results. That's why people should keep trying different things until they find something that works for them.

That's actually a good point; a lot of products have lab-made chemicals and shit that clog your pores or screw up your pH balance. Market research and reading ingredients is really important to finding something good for you.

Like you said, do some research. Plenty of people get results from using these products, hence their 4-5 star ratings and results (including from people like myself) that contradict what you're claiming.

A healthy diet and washing your face less are both good pieces of advice, but to say that man-made products are the worst thing for your skin and that this solution is going to work for everyone is downright fallacious.

How long did you try it for? Usually you brake out for the first week it's called a "detox". You'd have to have gone without any chemicals on your face for at least a month. That's when your face starts relaxing and stops pumping so much sebum.

Yes they CAN work. However, how many people have you heard of who completely got rid of their acne using those products? You usually hear that it was effective at reducing their acne, but rarely do you hear someone saying a product rid their acne 100%. It might happen though who knows. You yourself said your acne isn't gone completely.

That's because products are a band-aid fix and people never end up fixing their real problems. That's why when you go off them you end up breaking out like crazy. You don't give your skin any breathing room.

Take a look at documentaries on tribes away from civilization and you won't spot one blemish on them. They eat clean and wash their faces with water. Unless they secretly order facial cleansers behind our backs... ;)

Idk about you, but I'd rather fix the actual problem and not have to worry about spending money on a bunch of products. I respect your opinion though... You do you boo.

If you guys want a full Proff guaranteed way of getting rid of Acne without the hassle.

Go to Acne.org

I bought there regime kit about a month ago and all my Acne and blackheads are gone, my skins pretty clear now. Darius who writes for the site was the person who I actually got the site from as well. The products on that site work really well.
