If you want to still try to maintain contact, then one of the best ways to do this is to never initiate contact with them. If they initiate contact with you, then you can reply in a friendly but short way. If a girl tries to get you to hang out with her (in a non-platonic but intimate setting), then just always politely decline and say that you are busy. After awhile, 99% of girls will get the hint that you aren't looking to see them in an intimate manner anymore.
If you do things correctly, most will stop contacting you to get together, but they will still be friendly should you wish or need to hang out with them again at some point.
NOTE: If they are contacting you extremely frequently, you just need to take very long periods of time to respond. Sometimes don't even respond until the next day.
