Putting this out there to help any ambitious guys on this forum who don’t know where to start.

I’m at a point where I pay for tools but I’d recommend this to a friend or family member

1) Make a service based website using “teleporthq.io” e.g. website development, email marketing or anything that can be learnt on YT

It’s fiddly but even non-technical people can figure it out with focus. More importantly it’s free

2) Export the html code & host it on “Netlify”

3) Buy a domain name from “Namecheap”

4) Create a .com email for free using Zoho email

5) Cold message people on Facebook groups, Fiver, Upwork, LinkedIn, Instagram etc until someone bites.

6) Optional - work for free to get testimonials

7) Rinse and repeat step 1 - 6.

I’ve been avoiding service based businesses for years as I hate selling time for money but I’m biting the bullet this year to get cash flow up.

Onwards & Upwards hope this helps someone x

Could you share more in depth on this model?

I have my doubts of the whole $10, but I could be wrong so I want to hear more about how you went from spending just $10 to profit. The whole idea to start a business from $10 and make it work would have sounded great to me 6+ years ago. But now that I have experience with this online stuff, I can see where it is not that easy. But of course everyone's experience may be different.

I do agree with using Namecheap. When I first starting off with online marketing, I bought my domains through Godaddy. But I switched as I found their plans way more expensive than others. And I could not see any real value difference with the competitors.

Upwork

Upwork has about 10,000 persons applying on a daily basis (thats what they said). So joining requires more steps to get through the application process. Not to mention, they only give 10 connects per month for someone on a free account. Also there are jobs which require 2 connects, 6 connects, etc. just to bid on the job.

Also some jobs on Upwork are very competitive. So you may see a job posted and within 30 minutes, between 20-50 persons or 50+ persons have applied for the one job.

Example: Transcription job which pays $10. And there are 50+ people applying for the one job (a total mess).

Connects can be bought of course for $0.15 or a montly membership for $14.99. So of course we already blew more than $10. I have also heard of persons writing 40 proposals on Upwork before they landed their first job. So that will blow $30 +

Fiverr

Their platform has changed a lot. Recently they started limiting the amount of Buyer Requests so it is much more difficult for new persons to get jobs on there. What I see some persons doing to get success is they have to spend money on advertising to drive traffic to their Fiverr page. Or they have to message a bunch of people on social media and try to convert them to spend money on their Fiverr profile.

All in all, what I am saying is all of that passes this supposed $10 biz idea. If one is not careful, they could get sucked into doing a project for months with little to no success.

Edit:

Back in 2017 I had a project to do. A simple project that goes in line with what you are saying about a $10 biz startup idea. And I posted the job on Upwork. And within 12 hours, I had 132 persons applying for the same job.

It was a mess. I ended up with too many options and I ended up being freaked out. And so I Googled the steps to do the project myself and I got the job done within 2 days.

Agreed it's definitely not easy but the process is simple.

Example: Transcription job which pays $10. And there are 50+ people applying for the one job (a total mess).

Damn didn't know it had changed that much for new joiners as I've got old accounts.

You've got 2 options:

1) Send more tailored messaging. As a buyer on those platforms 99% of people were simply copying and pasting generic templates.

I also ended up choosing freelancers who would literally start the job for free in order to stand out e.g. when asking for a list of estate agents in my area a woman from Bangladesh showed me 10 names , numbers and emails that she had already scraped for me.

Does that suck? Yes but needs must, once reviews roll in, you'll get better inbound clients.

2) Get Creative & perform outreach in less competitive environments

You find these forums by asking yourself "If I wanted to buy or was interested in xyz where would I go?" Sadly you won't find these in Youtube or a 10 second Google Search. If you do, most of them will be saturated anyway.

I made most my first profitable online money ($700+) from niche forums I.E "BlackHatWorld" and re-selling a software by getting free inbound leads after writing non-generic useful information.

The only way to get that quality insight is by actually doing things yourself.

b) So in the example of services you could try and rank a website high on Google Using what you've learnt from Youtube then write in Niche Forums/Facebook groups how you successfully managed to do it (as it's a in demand skill) then people will reach out to you asking for your services. You don't even need to be a pro here just significantly above newbie.

To take this example even further you could join Facebook group owners filled with shopify owners or whichever niche you want to target and offer them SEO services as you know it reduces their reliance on paid traffic and increases their store re-sale value so why wouldn't they want that? They'll also trust you as you've written helpful content for a few weeks before you pitched the sale.

Making money online isn't a myth it just requires more creativity than a few years ago as a lot of *obvious low hanging fruits* have been taken.

Been tempted to VLOG / Blog me going from 0 - replace job money but that's a story for a whole other time.
