Hey guys, when I'm talking to a girl I can open alright, but during the convo I just have a brain fart and stare off and she does the same, then I try re opening and it works, but it goes right back to the silence. How can I stop it and have my conversations go more smoothly?

Post an example of your conversation, so it's easier to analyze what went wrong. It could be you're not relating to her, not asking her the right questions, not providing feedback and adding into the conversation...etc.

When a moment of silence or awkward pause comes up look at her like she's supposed to say something and she will usually talk
From there - let her talk about herself and she'll become comfortable with you.
