With a woman I bedded in April, I texted "how was she doing" and everything went smooth. We saw each other again and banged her for the following 2 months and she still emails me and talks about seeing each other again even if she's not in town anymore. With a girl I bedded at the beginning of August I did the same exact thing, but it didn't have the same effect. She wanted to see me only 3 weeks later and not at my place, so the second time we didn't even have sex and I will definitely next her if next time she doesn't come straight to my place with me doing minimum effort. And if she wasn't so hot I wouldn't even give her this last chance. I'd rather put the effort in meeting new ones.

Surely each girl is different and much depends on how much she enjoyed the sex, if she's seeing other guys and other variables (i.e. the first is in her forties, the second in her twenties) but for future references there must be some thumb rule which maximises results.

The general rule of thumb for texting a girl after the first time you have sex with her is, send her a warm text sometime the next morning letting her know you enjoyed the night with her. If she enjoyed it too, you'll likely get a warm response.

After that, I usually give it about 2-4 days or so to contact her again and arrange another time to meet up if I want to keep seeing her. If you don't contact her with 5-7 days, you'll run a higher risk of her assuming it was just a one-night stand, which is fine if that's what you want. If that's not what you want and you contact her, she might get upset at the fact that you took so long to contact her and she'll go into auto-rejection -- this usually seems to happen because she feels like she must have been some "back-up" plan to other women, otherwise you would have contacted her sooner to see her again.

Basically what Franco said, however if you've had several dates before sex, it's no use (and even betaish) to send the ping. I do the "warm text" thing after the first meet, whether we had sex or not. After that I just wait a few days and pitch a meet again.
