Today I saw an indian girl at the library. She had a nice plaid I noticed. She went outside just before me. I told her that she had a nice looking plaid. She said thanks and said I had sharp eyes.

Then we kept walking and talking. She told me she would miss her train if we kept talking and I let her go. Didn't ask her to stay (but it was cold anyway) or for her number. Still proud of myself as this was my fist genuine interest opener...

I feel as if the worst places for beginners to pick up girls is in fast paced areas like train/bus stations.

Past Paced Areas

You are right. Many girls are in a hurry at train/bus stations and I find it hard to make them stop for a minute (or ten).

I will try pick-up in these locations nonetheless... Just do hard stuff and everything becomes easy.
