I was chatting today with my ex who recently went to a nightclub with her hot friends. She was telling me about the guys trying to pick up girls at the club.
As is usual in Asian night clubs, most of them are tactless creeps who sit at their tables leering at the hottest girls until finally working up the nerve to approach, at which point the girls are usually already weirded out by them.
But she described one Korean guy that I thought was interesting. All the girls in the club were fawning over him, and she described him like this:
“He was super handsome. He had lots of rings, earrings, cool pendants, amazing hair, and sexy, tight clothes. He was just standing by the bar the whole night, with a single drink. He was watching the stage the whole time. Occasionally he would walk around the room or go to the bathroom, and he would make brief eye contact with a girl, but he never stared at the girls. My friend and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. My friend really wanted to go home with him, but before we had the chance to talk to him, some other hot girl approached and he went home with her instead!”
Now, last night I had just happened to watch Mystery’s recent interview, in which they talked about peacocking back in the day. So I heard this story I thought… huh, doesn’t this sound familiar? Is this how Korean guys pick up girls in night clubs these days? A persona of aloofness and mystery sounds effective when your competition is a bunch of horny idiots with no self control.
I'll be going out to the night clubs this week to see if I can spot one of these “Korean peacocks” in the wild, perhaps it will inspire me to upgrade my fashion. To put a question to the community, though, is peacocking still taken seriously in night game in the West? I know it’s kind of old fashioned at this point, but that actually might be an advantage since there’s an entire generation of young people now who don't even remember it.
