Is there any way you can mantain contact with a woman you barely know?

Hi, I just wanted to hear some opinions, and advice if you got some. I met a girl at a bar last week and we made up etc. She was going to take a plane to her hometown that very same night but she gave me her phone number. Now, the only question I have is, is there any way I can maintain contact with her just with messages? she said she comes from times to times to my town, so i was wondering if there would be a way in which I can arrange a date or maybe I should just forget about it. Sorry if this question seems weird, its just that I dont find it easy to have conversations throught the internet with people I barely know, even GC articles recommend that you should only use cellphones and social media to arrange dates, not build rapport

There are a lot of girls that I am involved with that I don't know very well. I'll meet them at work, school or church and the time I am there with them is pretty short (a couple months to maybe a year). I'm not like most guys here where I try to get dates with them asap. I did that when I was in school and it did not work. I'll get the phone number and give them a buzz every so often. I'll send them pictures of myself or a link to where my pics are posted on social media. I may send them a birthday text if I know when their birthday is. If she tells me she's in another state(US) and I happen to be going there I'll let her know in advance if she wants to meet up. I've had it happen to me in reverse where the girl will text me saying she's coming to my state and will ask if I want to see her. This will carry on for years and many times I won't hear from the said girl at all. I'm likely to give up on her if she's really young <30s and less likely to give up if she's older >30s. A lot of the girls I run around with are independent types who are not too crazy about answering to a bf on a continuous basis. They want to fall in love on their own terms and I will have to wait until they are ready. An indication they want me to continue to keep in touch is by occasionally responding to my texts.
