Has anyone on here read this book? I am on chapter 4 right now on the section on Man psychology I am psyched for this book its the most interesting read I have had in a while. I had previously taken a psychology course with University of North Dakota so it was interesting to have background knowledge on the collective unconscious and Jung's work.

The book basically points out the differences between a boy and a man and how in a lot of Western societies that there is no ritual performances of becoming a man and the death of your "boy psychology" . We sadly mistake "bad boys" like gang thugs, rappers, and shady CEOs as real men....

That is a very broad analysis the book obviously goes more in depth and I would like to connect with other people reading this book.

Interesting David I'm reading it right now as well. I'm at the part where the book is delving into the four masculine archetypes. I'm on the "lover" chapter.

I, like you, find it rather intriguing read however I really don't know how to apply what I'm learning about it into my life. I realize we need to cultivate the 4 archetypes he mentions but it's so broad it's hard for me to get a grasp on real world application.

I find books like this not to be greatest for "manual to live by" but more something to keep in mind to help shape what the "strongest version of yourself" looks like (as Elliott Hulse would say).

I want to keep the book and read it again 5 years from now (i'll be 26 then) and see if I don't resonate more with it since I'll have more depth of character along with more real world experience.

What are you thoughts on applying the material in real life? How does the info presented in the book affect you, as in what are you getting out of it?

I haven’t read this yet though have read on it here http://www.artofmanliness.com/2011/07/3 ... roduction/ and am familiar with it also from when Elliott Hulse talked about it one of his videos here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7rYTv3Z3f4

It’s a fascinating series of ideas I think… I feel the same way as Rob does (I’m the same age, 20 years young) that there’s a lot to it (still gotta read the book to get the full breadth of the ideas) but it seems to be an analogy that I’ll run into again/realize more about in future years. Learning about it kind of felt like glimpsing at a mystery/plot that present-you realizes you’ll have to unravel but until that time comes, it will be a locked door to you (but you realize that one day you’ll open it and have something influential and significant at your hands when you do… if that makes sense lol).

Back when Elliott’s video on this had come out and I had watched it, I had felt kind of like I could distinguish the 4 archetypes in my own life in different endeavors I had taken up (chose each of these for various, disparate reasons)

Magician: Jazz Musician

Warrior: Powerlifter

King: Writer

Lover: Seducer

But I’ve yet to read the book, and perhaps yet to achieve each of these archetypes fully (or at least consciously do so). Maybe much more here that I don’t realize, but yeah it was quite interesting just learning about it on a surface level at least :)

Oh DrexelScott, I love the references to movie to paint the picture of what the author is trying to say. I especially liked the recent Star Wars reference in the chapter I'm reading lol was a nerd moment for me. I'm midway through the Magician chapter right now been reading it in chunks when I have the free time.

I am definitely loving the Magician archetype as I can relate to it when I'm trying to master the field of FInance right now. In fact recently in my classes I learned about exchange rates, purchase power parity, and doing some international business. I have also been investing since I was 19. Its just something I love and this is something I want to master and eventually get my MBA and CFA in.

Gem I like how you break it down as I am looking toward something similar.

King: Not sure yet but I just want to run my family like a humble king one day. When I become a grandfather I want to be as good as my grandfather is one day. Wise, humble, and always willing to help out. This is what I see in the King.

Warrior: I'm in the military at the moment but definitely don't feel like a warrior when I have had surgery on my lower back lol. I feel like a broken soldier already. My military career is coming to a end. I do need to learn how to defend myself physically; I don't know how to fight at all.

Magician: Mastering the Finance field. Proving myself by obtaining my MBA and CFA.

Lover: Haven't gotten to this chapter yet but keep my Wife happy and attraction for me high for many years.
