Hey everybody,
Funny thing happened past 2 days.

I met a cute girl from the states (we're in Argentina studying abroad, it's been a week) while waiting for an appointment and grabbed her number. Texted her later to break the ice, next day I invite her to Saturday brunch, to which she says "For sure...blah blah.."

Problem is distance, I live outside the capital and most students aren't familiar with transportation (if they even have a working cellphone yet), so I know that I have to walk everybody through how to get to my train stop.

So we're all set up on a place and time, and I tell her I'll call a good hour before to make sure she knows how to get here. I get a machine voicemail with a male voice (no name) telling me to leave a number and he'll call back - WTF?

I sent a text instead and haven't heard back yet, so I'm going to assume its off and now want to know what the hell happened? Did she give me a wrong # and the dude just decided to fuck with me? Or was she in bed with some dude she picked up Friday night and had him answer the phone?

I've gotten bad #s before and they either just don't respond or tell me I've got a bad # and to delete it. Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Tkr,

It's hard to know for sure exactly what happened. It's possible she might have a boyfriend (or is seeing some dude), and he picked up the phone. At this point, you just have to not care (by being outcome independent). Whatever the situation was, it was uncommon and probably not something that is going to happen to you very often.

You can try texting her one more time later in the week and see if you get a response from her. If not, then it's time to move on to the next one!

Hey Franco,
Thanks for the response. I'm glad to hear its so rare, because I got the feeling that karma was getting back at me, though that's another story haha

Turned out that she's one of those party girls that likes to dance the night away till 5am and pass out till noon. She responded later to apologize and actually still wanted to meet up, but I just told her I was busy now and that we could get dinner the next day. She heartily agreed only to call me up hungover the next afternoon to get directions, and then gave up because it was too hard. Inability to understand simple directions in a foreign city + a hangover + a broken phone is just a terrible deal. She's still trying to meet up but it won't even let me text her back so I guess she's just hanging wondering what happened lol

I've never had to handle a flake before so I guess I'm proud that I was able to do it well, and it's great to know that nowadays I'm getting a really healthy date-# return, but my emotional reaction really worried me. Her flake basically shot a hole in my afternoon, so I just passed the hours upset, chain-smoking cigarretes, and holding my D. Then I get a text telling me that I was wrong and should have never reacted that way. Next time, if I don't have any work to do, I'm just going to use that time to go approach new girls :)

Haha, this made me chuckle.

It sounds like you have the right mindset about it. Always remember that there's never a good reason to be in a bad mood over spilled milk -- because, in the grand scheme of things, that's exactly what a situation like this equates to: spilled milk. ;)
