'm not sure if I should use a direct "I think you're cute" line or if I should make an indirect comment and slowly come around to my true intentions.

Doesn't matter the main things is you say something and not hemm and haww over whether or not your should go direct or indirect. If you can't think of anything to say and you need a canned opener use the best one of all time "hey I'm MattRyan".

However I've been using situational openers and not displaying my interest except by nonverbals (eye contact and touch) and has been working very well recently in stores.
