Hi,
If you happen to love music, you tend to notice that there's a slight element of "resentment", "fake" or "phony", or you find it unbelievable when your idol sings a song that is very different from what you expected. This also happens with friends where you didn't meet them in a long awhile. They become so different, and that suddenly you do not like them, only because they do not react to your jokes like last time, they no longer submissive. Some of your friends may even deny it's their past.
So why you feel all this feelings when people do this? You feel it because you know it's not them. Just like how fans feel when they meet superstars. There's a disconnect, because the brain cannot conjure that.
I learn self-depreciation is key to make yourself not only humble, but acknowledge that the past exist when old friends disturb you. This means is that you do not hinder people, You also do not reward them either. You rise above them. You smile, You laugh with them a slight bit. You don't deny it, and you only attend to address it if it's excessive.
You don't need to deny your past, or what you done. You just acknowledge by smiling, you laugh with them a slight bit but never give in and reason with them. You rise above it. and you rise above it, because you already in the present, You living today. and if they insist you're lame, that's cool, Just don't meet them anymore. Because afterall, Now, you did your bridging, It's people's time now to accept your "new" you.
