Meeting at hotel: Is this a valid complaint? Or is this a test?

I've been setting up first dates at a bar/lounge in a Hyatt Hotel. I just had this text conversation with a gal I met online:

ME: Let's grab a drink @ XXXXXX @ 8pm.
HER: Why do you like XXXXXX so much [we tried to meet there last time but she couldn't make it]
HER: R u stating at that hotel?
HER: Staying
ME: Ha, it's quiet and relaxing! And it's close by where I work and live. :)
HER: Oh! So you want me to come to you?!
ME: We'll meet somewhere close to you next time. :)
HER:Don't you think it's kind of weird to meet in a hotel when there are so many gorgeous places to meet in SD...plus I have to pay for parking![/quote]

I ended up just telling her I see her point and changed venue. I usually do the Hyatt lounge because it has large sofas, which I prefer over sitting across each other at a table. Is it really weird to meet at a bar/lounge in a hotel?

I don't think it's a test. I think the issue is that it's unromantic. Hotel bars have a functional and "fleeting" feel. Having said that, Four Seasons or, at a push, Loews are okay in terms of bars/lounges. Hyatt in the States is disappointing, although it's better across the pond.

What you really need for a date in my view is a place that's sufficiently relaxed and casual that she won't feel under pressure, yet classy and inspiring. In the part if the country where I live, there's a place called Cafe Intermezzo that fits that exact description. No idea whether these exist in San Diego.

Hope this helps.

That makes sense.

I've had dates where she isn't free until 11pm. The only place I know of that is close to my place and is open that late is that lounge in the Hyatt. It's literally a 5 minute drive. Maybe I need to be willing to drive up to 15 minutes away?
