Hey everyone!
I got laid…
off recently and accepted a new offer that required relocation to the middle of nowhere in Midwest. Like literally the rustiest part of the rust belt. It’s not really a bad area per se, it has over a 1 mil of people scattered across a huge area. But the population is pretty redneck-ish in my opinion and the only big city nearby is kinda dead. Typical questions people ask each other is “which HS did you graduate?” and similar things because everyone seems to be living here their whole life and don’t plan to change it. I will keep searching for new opportunities and as soon as I get something I will move to a better place but given the current tech job market it seems that I am stuck here for at least half a year if not more.
I will try my luck on dating apps but given the quality of people around I am not really positive about it...
This place doesn’t have much of events like what I am used to, night life is probably miserable too plus I never done it, no foot traffic, no large walkable areas like in Chicago or Boston or fucking any other normal city. It has a very big amusement park though and couple big museums. It has a couple of universities around but both are within an hour drive from me and even though I am in my mid 20s I don’t want to hover around campuses in the evening hitting on students, especially given high crime in those areas, plus soon it will be summer so those campuses will go extinct till fall anyway. If not for the money I would’ve never lived here but the pay is actually pretty decent. I am a tall good looking white guy so the only things that give me out are my accent and the fact that I know how to dress.
Any advices? Thanks

If I were in your shoes I’d probably not act like I’m still in a metropolis like NYC or LA. Strategic flexibility is key here I think. And hey, at least there are plenty of dumb blondes walking around compared to metros.

If DG and/or SC are your style as you seem to indicate, why not try activity-based SCs? Pretty standard advice I know, but well suited to nowheresville.

Another option is to get a gf and join the poly/swinger scene… when I think “swingers” I think respectable 40 yo well-to-do white couples and I imagine nowheresville is full of em…

My standard advice for universities is to go there mainly for events and approach before or after. You could also use their libraries to work.

Yeah those schools have events and some of them specifically designed for alums so attract a little older crowd, good advice, thanks
